Richard Ivey Dean Stephenson Named One of Canada Most Powerful Women

Dean Carol Stephenson was named one of Canada Most Powerful Women: Top 100TM yesterday at a luncheon in Toronto.

Over 600 executives and future leaders, including many Ivey students gathered to share ideas and to celebrate the achievements of the most influential women in Canada. Attendees were privy to a keynote address by fellow winner, Ivey alum and RBC Financial Group Chief Operating Officer Barbara Stymiest, one of the most senior female corporate executives in Canada.

Prior to her appointment as Dean of the Richard Ivey School of Business, Carol Stephenson was a widely respected CEO in the Canadian telecom industry. She brings more than 30 years of progressive experience in marketing, operations, strategic planning, technology development and financial management to Canada premier business school. The recipient of a number of prestigious awards for her achievements, she currently serves on the boards of directors for several top Canadian companies and on several important government committees as well.

Carol Stephenson began her career at Bell Canada in 1973, advancing through a series of management positions to join the executive ranks in 1988. From 1995 to 1998, as President and CEO of Stentor Resource Centre Inc, she led the national marketing and technology development centre for Canada nine telecommunications companies. Then as President and CEO of Lucent Technologies Canada from 1999 to 2003, she spearheaded the team that succeeded in tripling Lucent? sales in Canada despite an industry downturn.

A graduate of the University of Toronto, Ms. Stephenson has earned significant recognition for her community work and industry involvement. The Canadian Women in Communications association named her Woman of the Year in 1995 and in 2001, she received the acclaimed Woman of Distinction designation from the YWCA. In 2000, she was awarded an honorary doctorate in engineering from Ryerson Polytechnic University.

Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards and Summit recognize exceptional women in seven categories: Corporate Executives, Entrepreneurs, Public Sector Leaders, Trailblazers, Professionals, Champions and new this year - Future Leaders. In addition, each nominee was also measured by her community contributions.

The following Ivey alumni were also honoured: Sylvia Chrominska (HBA ?75), Lisa Colnett (HBA ?81), Elizabeth Delbianco (MBA ?97), Barbara Stymiest (HBA ?78), and Madeleine Paquin (HBA ?84). On top of this, Ivey faculty member Dr. Kellie Leitch was also named one of Canada Most Powerful Women.
