tycoon receives Ivey Business Leader Award
Marking the 10
th anniversary of the Richard Ivey School
of Business in Hong Kong, the University of Western Ontario conferred
the Ivey Business Leader Award to Dr.Cheng Yu-tung, chairman of
the New World Development Company Ltd.
Dr. Paul Davenport, president and vice-chancellor of the University
of Western Ontario, presented the award to Cheng during the
Richard Ivey School of Business Hong Kong campus gala dinner.
With the exception for this year, the Ivey Business Leader
Award has traditionally been given to successful and influential
Canada- based businessmen.
In his acceptance speech, Cheng recognized Iveyˇ¦s dedication
to promote business education and research by offering rich
and practical business knowledge, as well as its constant interaction
with the business world.
While not an alumnus himself, Cheng was proud to reveal that
two of his children graduated from the Richard Ivey School of
Business, and acknowledged that the university nurtured generations
of emerging business minds.
In 1998, Cheng established The Cheng Yu Tung Management Institute
in Hong Kong, the first campus of the Richard Ivey School of
Business in Asia.
