What
is an Executive MBA?
An Executive MBA (EMBA) is an MBA tailored for working executives
who already have a significant amount of managerial experience.
EMBA students are typically more mature (average age, 36) and
classes for this program are held on weekends. Learning from one's
peers, who represent a wide range of industries, is an important
component in the EMBA Program. EMBA participants are also given
the opportunity to examine their companies and industries in depth
through course work and projects.

The
Ivey Business School is a 'case school'. How will this impact
my learning?
At the Ivey Business School, we believe in learning by doing.
You will work through over 250 real decision scenarios faced by
real companies in our EMBA and will develop your decision making
skills by selecting and analyzing the data involved, developing
alternatives, and strategizing practical action plans as if you
were the decision maker in each case.
Case learning involves three levels of learning.
- You work through the case yourself,
analyzing data, and developing your own ideas.
- You get together with your learning
team to discuss the case in depth; expand your perspectives:
and learn of your own 'blind spots'.
- You gather with your class and
professor for a wide-ranging and always lively discussion.
You learn to challenge and build on each other's ideas constructively.
Case learning is practical, immediate,
and relevant.

Why
is Cross-Enterprise LeadershipTM
relevant?
The business world is fast-changing, posing new challenges to
every part of the organization. Globalization. Competition. Consolidation.
Technology. None of them fit into tidy boxes. In 2005, the Ivey
Business School launched Cross-Enterprise LeadershipTM
as its new approach to business education. This unique learning
model immerses students in real-world problems that don't fit
into tidy functional silos. It is designed to generate business
leaders who will have the breadth and capacity to always see the
bigger picture and lead initiatives that enhance the whole enterprise.
Cross-Enterprise LeadershipTM
is the new kind of business education where traditional business
functions are managed from an enterprise-wide perspective.

How
long has your program been around?
The Ivey Business School was established in 1920 and our full-time
MBA program has been offered since 1948 in London, Ontario. Our
Canadian-based Executive MBA program began in 1991 in the Toronto
area and attracted 31 students to the first class. Within two
years the section had grown to 50 students per year, and in 1997
a second section was added for a total annual intake of close
to 110 highly qualified individuals.
In August 1998, Ivey launched its Hong Kong-based EMBA program.
Currently 68 participants are enrolled in its EMBA. Their job
responsibilities include CEO, General Manager, Financial Controller,
Vice President, Professor, Regional Brand Manager, Chief Engineer,
and Managing Director, to name a few, and they represent a wide
range of industries, including electronics, finance, insurance,
catering, conglomerate, chemical, educational institution, technology,
logistics, telecommunications, IT and internet companies, manufacturing,
transportation and health services.

What
degree will I earn?
Beside the stronger emphasis on Asian cases and doing business
in Asia, our EMBA in HK is the same as the one we offer in Canada.
The professors and curriculum are the same. In fact, if you leave
HK after completing term 2 in the program, you can transfer to
complete your EMBA in Canada (subject to space availability).
You receive a Master of Business Administration
from The University of Western Ontario. It is the same degree
you would receive graduating from our Canadian EMBA or MBA.

How
long does it take to get an EMBA?
The Ivey EMBA is an 18-month, weekend based experience. With the
exception of two mandatory in-residence periods, all classes take
place during non-work hours. Our weekend based schedule allows
executives from around Asia to be in our class.

How
heavy is workload in your EMBA?
Our participants tell us that they typically spend 10-12 hours
a week on EMBA-related work. This of course differs from person
to person, but one universal truth that holds for all is that
you get out of it what you put in to it.

How
much is tuition? Is there financial
assistance?
