It seems fitting that Ivey Asia celebrated its 20th anniversary on September 27 with a roundtable session on how current and future leaders can weather disruption.
After all, Ivey Asia itself is an example of the School’s forward-thinking.
When Ivey opened its Hong Kong facility, the Cheng Yu Tung Management Institute, in 1998 it was the first North American business school to establish a campus in China. That move set the stage for increasing engagement in Asia on a number of levels.
Here are some recent highlights:
- In 2016, the School launched Case Centre Asia for the creation of new Asian cases and research initiatives; and,
- The inaugural SYSBS-Ivey International Case Competition will launch next month for schools around the world.
And Ivey Asia continues to expand its Executive Education business, including Big Data and Analytics programs in Hong Kong and China, and custom programs delivered globally in Asia, North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
“In September 2018, Ivey Business School proudly celebrated its 20th anniversary in Asia. Throughout its 20-year presence, Ivey has captured growth opportunities, built deep and broad networks, and developed many leaders in the region,” said Professor Chris Chan, Associate Dean, Asia. “Ivey continues its commitment to be globally relevant and recognized as a world-class creator of knowledge and leaders that contribute to businesses and societies.”
Ivey’s history in China traces back more than 30 years. It began with The China Project in 1984, a partnership with Tsinghua University in Beijing to teach Ivey’s Case-Method Learning to Chinese faculty and students. It was solidified with the official opening of the Hong Kong campus on September 21, 1998.
In 2014, Ivey won its second Gold Education Excellence Award from the Canada China Business Council for its achievements in expanding Canada’s relationship with China through education, research, alumni relations, and student and faculty exchanges. It also won the inaugural award in 2012.
Over the years, Ivey has developed 546 leaders in Asia through its Hong Kong EMBA Program.
